Music For Mental Health

Music For Mental Health is a way to connect individuals in the music community who put together creative works to raise awareness to mental health and well-being (Music For Mental Health, 2016). The put on concerts and events with their proceeds going to causes related to mental health. For example, the first concert they put on “raised funds and awareness for a much needed safe space for youth in the Rockwood community” (Music For Mental Health, 2016). From there, they have gathered musicians for other benefit shows for causes gender equality and homelessness (2016). This organization is a great way for musicians to connect and network but to put on shows. Whether or not you play music, you are able to either perform or watch as an audience. Overall, it is a great way to be in the same room as people who believe mental health is important.
Tune Your Mood
Tune Your Mood is an organization promoting youth mental health by connecting adolescents with other adolescents. Not only is this a safe place to connect youth, it also informs them on topics ranging from “mental and sexual health, school relationships to alcohol and other drugs” (Tune Your Mood, 2011). They often have events such as International Youth Day and R U OK? Day to gather other youth together and create a network. This is a useful site to use for youth looking to find others to connect with, who may also be struggling with mental health issues. An interesting feature to this organization is that it is online based and there are playlists created by other youth online for different moods. These playlists are a way to see into the minds of other youths on a certain day. Perhaps on Monday someone was sad, so their playlist reflects that mood, or another day someone was inspired so their playlist reflected that. Overall, Tune Your Mood is a way to express how you feel and is a safe place to go if you are feeling alone and need support.
